Upcoming Workshop: Nourishing the Gut – A Hands-On Miso-Making Experience

We are excited to introduce our upcoming miso-making workshop on Saturday, February 22. This hands-on session offers a unique opportunity to learn about the health benefits of miso from both TCM and Naturopathic perspectives.
Miso, a traditional fermented food, has long been valued for its ability to support digestion, promote gut health, and enhance overall wellness. Under the guidance of N.D. Jeena Park and Rehab Assistant Miho Dimitrijevic, participants will explore the therapeutic properties of miso and experience the art of fermentation firsthand.
Best of all, each participant will get to prepare and take home their own batch of miso, ensuring they can continue to enjoy its benefits long after the workshop.
Whether you’re new to fermentation or a long-time miso enthusiast, this workshop offers a wonderful opportunity to deepen your understanding of gut health, gain hands-on experience in traditional food preparation, and connect with others who share an interest in holistic wellness.

Foods to Avoid During the Flu

When battling a cold or flu, the body naturally works to expel illness through sweating, nasal discharge, and phlegm. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), this process is known as “releasing the exterior,” which helps clear out pathogens and restore balance. Remedies like ginger, cinnamon, and peppermint are often used to promote perspiration and ease congestion.
However, certain foods can slow recovery by interfering with the body’s ability to eliminate illness. Warming, rich, or heavy foods—such as red meat, bone broth, dairy (milk, cheese, cream), eggs, and nuts (especially almonds and walnuts)—can generate excess heat and mucus, potentially worsening symptoms. Additionally, cold, greasy, or overly processed foods like deep-fried dishes, ice cream, and heavy sauces can burden digestion, making it harder for the body to fight off illness.
Instead, focus on light, nourishing, and easy-to-digest meals that support your immune system. Simple broths, cooked vegetables, and gentle grains like rice or congee provide essential nutrients without overwhelming digestion. Staying hydrated with warm water or rice water can also help soothe the body, replenish fluids, and promote faster recovery.
By making mindful food choices, you give your body the best chance to heal efficiently and regain strength more quickly. And if you are curious on how to eat better for your specific constitution and body type, you can schedule a session with one of our Naturopathic Doctors or speak to your TCM practitioner for more information.
Featured Product: Souper Well Relief Soup Pack

To help support recovery during flu season, we’re featuring the Souper Well Relief Soup Pack, a carefully crafted blend designed to soothe coughs and relieve nasal congestion.
From a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective, this soup is both comforting and therapeutic. One of its key ingredients, Chinese Yam (Shan Yao), is known for its ability to strengthen lung and spleen function, helping to ease lingering coughs and restore vitality. Another essential ingredient, Dried Pears, is highly valued in TCM for its ability to moisten the lungs and relieve dry coughs, making it particularly effective for soothing throat irritation and reducing phlegm.
By incorporating these time-honored ingredients, the Souper Well Relief Soup Pack provides a gentle yet nourishing option to support your body’s natural healing process. Simply simmer, sip, and let the warmth of this therapeutic broth help clear congestion and promote respiratory health.
Available now at the clinic—ask our front desk for more details!
As we move through the season, we encourage you to prioritize your well-being with the right foods, therapies, and self-care. We’re here to support you every step of the way!
